SMR
Learning
Through a strategic alliance between SMR International and SLA, members of SLA can now earn a knowledge management (KM) certificate by participating in this new program. Offered through SLA’s Click University, the certificate program addresses one of the most important issues facing knowledge workers, the management and delivery of knowledge services in the organizational environment.
According the 2007 SLA Workplace Study and Salary Survey, KM is one of the highest paid disciplines within the information profession with a median annual salary of $76,000 for respondents in the U.S. who identified KM as their primary area of responsibility. The 7.2 percent increase in 2007 for KM pros in the same position as the previous year (in comparison to the 5.1 percent across-the-board increase for other information professionals same position as last year) demonstrates increased importance being placed on this function, as well as recognition of the significant strategic value knowledge professionals bring to an organization.
The courses of the SLA Click U / SMR International Certificate Program in KM/Knowledge Services are open to SLA members working towards a full KM certificate and to those SLA members seeking occasional courses to enhance their professional development and expertise. Any course may be taken à la carte, and individuals can begin their study at any time in the certificate cycle. Individuals considering a full certificate program can transition to a full program (with considerable financial incentives) after successfully completing two courses in succession. The programs are appropriate for seasoned KM professionals as well as for other knowledge professionals not currently performing a KM function.
Value Add. The courses of the KM/Knowledge Services Certificate Program provide participants with two added value benefits. For each course, a guest participant – a specialist in the subject of the course – meets with the group for a brief presentation and interactive conversation. In addition, participants are given a copy of the SMR International Management Action Plan on the subject of the course. Marketed commercially, the SMR MAPs (as they are called) describe background and practices relating to the subject of the course, and include a planning workbook. SMR MAPs are provided to participants in the Click U / SMR International Certificate Program in KM/Knowledge Services at no additional charge.
